First Five Minutes: CHarlie Chan in London

Charlie Chan's character was created by Ohio born Earl Derr Biggers, Warner Oland played the part with aplomb, in this adventure Charlie Chan of the Honolulu police force, crack detective and worldwide celebrity finds himself in England and accepts a case where he has to find a murderer in 65 hours to save an innocent man from the gallows, the action takes place in a wealthy country home where there is more that one dead body, the obligatory assault on Chan himself, misleading clues,and the ever present reminder that time is passing keeps the action flowing, a sound supporting cast including Ray Milland who plays fiance to the sister of the wrongfully imprisoned man make this film a must for those who enjoy a good who-done-it murder mystery. First Five Minutes: The Ghost Breakers

First Five minutes of The Ghost Breakers. Mary Carter (Paulette Goddard) inherits her family's ancestral home, located on a small island off Cuba and despite warnings and death threats she decides to take possession of the reputedly haunted castle. Mary is joined by radio broadcaster Larry Lawrence (Bob Hope) who, believing he has killed a mob gunman flees New York with his butler Alex. Once on the island the threesome enter the eerie castle and after viewing the ghost of one of Mary's ancestors and fighting off a menacing zombie the find the key to the castle's treasure but are interrupted by an all-too-human foe. Hope has one great line after another in this old dark house mystery-comedy. A group of relations are gatherd to hear a will and must stay overnight in the house to see if the inheritor remains sane. The house is set in the swamplands of Louisiana and we are treated to secret panels, an occasional murder, hooded culprits and a great mystery.

James Stewart and Henry Fonda are at the peak of their form as a pair of impovrished swing band musicians who attempt to change their luck by rigging a talent contest. Dorothy Lamour costars as an aspiring actress who dons a Polynesian sarong in a hilarious spoof of exotic Hollywood musicals, Fred MacMurray and William Demerest are travelling con men who fall into the snare of a moniacal ten year old named "sniffles" Dugan. All these comical adventures are woven together by an aspiring reporter (Burgess Meredith) who struggles to write a human interest piece to satisfy the professional ambitions of his young bride (Paulette Goddard).
